Last Saturday was a crazy day.
Our Septic Tank backed up into the basement. *GASP!*
I was going downstairs to throw in a load all of a sudden, I heard some gurgling noises and then *pop!* went the door of the washing machine and *gush!* dirty water came flowing out! Our brand new LG front loader! AHHH!
We knew from the well and septic inspection that we would need to empty the tank, but figured we’d do it in the spring. Called about twenty places to see if we could get someone to come out that day since my husband was leaving for a business trip on Monday. Only one was able to come out. If you’re in the western ‘burbs of Chicago and need septic help, All Around Pumping was WONDERFUL. Give them a call, here’s their info.
As my mom said, poop happens, and now we know a thing or two about septic tanks (and the importance of Rid X!). Thank God our basement is old and unfinished and the water just went down into the drain. A lot of scrubbing and a few sanitary cycles with some Basic G, a disinfectant/germicide, and our basement and washer are back to normal. I have a post saved about our basement, so you’ll get to see more about that later. Ahhhh, the joys of home ownership! ;)
But wait! That’s not all…
What’s missing in this picture?
Thanks to craigslist, our beloved fridge big green monster has found a new home! The phrase “they don’t make ‘em like they used to” applies to this beauty. We would have kept it and painted it to match our kitchen, but Doug’s parents were able to upgrade their fridge and gave us the one they were using in their basement.
(If you noticed the two fridges in one of the pictures in this post, high five to you!)
We sold it to a younger couple (read: near our age) who lived in a house with only a mini fridge. The man said that his grandma lived next door and had THREE fridges, none of which she could part with. They were excited when they saw it, how cold it was, how in tact the seals were for being a 30 year old fridge. It made me happy to see it go to a good home, to someone who saw the value of it.
They seemed like good people and they got a good fridge. Goodbye, old friend! :)
