Pay No Attention to the Peeling Paint…

When we got workin’ back in Sept ‘09, we scraped paint, patched, primed, and painted two coats on all of the walls and ceilings in our house in the month before we moved in. We decided to skip the hallway and bathroom, since those were two rooms that didn’t need furniture moved in and out and we could easily paint them once we were living in the house. Before picture:

HA! So now it’s ohhh, 8 MONTHS LATER, and neither of those rooms are painted! And the before actually looks better, due to my blurry pic and laundry. Real life, people.

Not only is the picture quality better, but we hadn’t started scraping the peeling paint in order to prepare for painting. So now we have this:

and this (who paints their hallway orange?! my apologies if you did…)

and this brass beauty… which has become the burial spot for dead ladybugs

We have the paint. We have the spackle. We even have the SPRAY PAINTED, ORB LIGHT FIXTURE. Why?

If you’ve been to our house, you probably haven’t noticed all of the peeling paint (many didn’t, until I pointed it out) because we have this REALLY cool storage built-in that helps steal the attention:

But, I got sick of the hallways non-progress and since my wobbly self shouldn’t be on a ladder (or inhaling paint), I wanted a quick, pretty fix. Enter these frames:

imagefrom my sister-in-law’s garage sale, I’m told they were brass in a former life

(actually they never made it out to the garage sale, I just said ooooooh, are you selling thooooose?)

So quit staring at this:

and start staring at this:

I wanted to finish the hallway before Lily’s party, and in talking to my grandpa, he asked me what else I wanted to get done and I told him about painting. His response?

Why? People aren’t gonna be thinking about your peeling paint, they’re gonna be thinking “oh crap, I really have to go to the bathroom!” Don’t worry about it, you’ve got other stuff to do…

LOL! So true, grandpa… glad to have a justification for not painting my hallway. ;)

AM – Have.You.Seen.My.Old.Orange.Walls. If you ever get a chance, look at MY before pictures on my blog – You will LOVE your hallway after viewing mine! Anyway, I love the frames that used to be brass. And I used to have one of those storage thingy's in our old (historic district)house. I've never seen one before that or after. I loved it. It was so roomy. Your home is so beautiful!

  4. Mandi says:

Oooh you're house has AWESOME trim! Sooo cool! You just can't get molding like that anymore. I can't wait to see what you do with it.

  5. Andrea says:

I wish I HAD a hallway. In 900 square feet, you barely get a kitchen and a bathroom! :o)

  6. Those frames look great in the hallway!Bonnie

  7. Your grandpa is right! The frames look great and if I'd seen the peeling paint I would have just figured, "work in progress!" AND, you are TOTALLY NOT CRAZY.
