Ribbon Wall Art / Clippie Holder Tutorial

I didn’t know what to title this post here or on parties, since this project can be used in so many ways!

I’ve been wanting to have something to hold all of Lily’s clippies which have a way of migrating throughout the house and getting lost along the way. Here’s a clip holder that looks stylish, but doubles as a memo board for when she gets older!

image

I started off with a canvas I bought at Goodwill for $1.99 back in March. What’s up, B?

image

I originally had other plans for the canvas, but after 5 coats of primer, the “B” was still very much visible. Not what I wanted…

image

What to do with it now… I had no idea, so I stuck it in my basement and there it sat for four months. Fast forward to June when I found this sweet PB teen memo board for .50! I love it, but it’s those aren’t the colors of ANY room in my house, let alone ONE room to hang it in!

image

I took the canvas off of the frame of the “B” canvas (which had since gotten some ORB – yuck)

image

and after I had hemmed my new curtains, I used the 15” of cut-off fabric, Doug’s staple gun

image image

and my four years of high school art classes to make a new canvas with the cotton material!

How I like to wrap my corners, apologies for the blur:imageI took some ribbon that I had on hand for other projects (like making bows), that would match her room

image image

image

cut the ribbon, and laid it out until I had a pattern that I liked (ironically, this isn’t a photo of the pattern I liked, lol).

image

To secure the ribbons in place where I wanted them, I used Glue Dots! Woo hoo, Glue Dots! These bad boys are good for so many uses…

image

Pull the ribbon tightly and staple it to either end of the canvas. Make sure you pull REALLY tight and check to make sure that the spacing between the two ribbons is equal before stapling the second end.

Voila, you’re done! Wall art that doubles as clippie storage:

Cost? Just the $1.99 for the frame, I had all of the ribbon on hand and the fabric I used was cut off of my curtains! I couldn’t let the perfectly good fabric go to waste!

Thanks for reading, I’m off to find all of the missing little buggers! ;)

HEY! This is the same thing that I did with my "Project Number 2". It's for the same purpose at least. But of course, I like yours better. UGH! Anyways, oh well! I still LIKE MINE! hahahaha

  2. Cute! I just discovered glue dots and used them for putting ribbon on a card! Your right they are wonderful!Carol

  3. Great idea!! It even looks good as just wall art w/out clippies! Looks fabulous! Hope you can find all the clippies!!

  4. This is a great idea and a lot of clippies will fit on it. My daughter has an ever growing collection that requires something BIG. So it's great that holds so many AND will be something she can continue to use as she gets older.
