Simple Egg Carton Snowflakes

image.png

Ahhhh, winter time. It’s the time of year when we are torn between hibernating and tackling stuff like crazy. I’m also always torn between decorating for Valentine’s Day or decorating with snowflakes. I guess both would be cute together, but after the décor-overload of Christmas, I like to take a break from holiday décor. We usually go through about 3-4 cartons of eggs a week and I was looking at our stack of egg cartons wanting to make something out of them. And then it hit me – … [Read more...]

On Balance and Space Boats

sb2_thumb.png

This past weekend, I attended a Bloggy Boot Camp in downtown Chicago. We heard from successful PR folks, learned about Google+, writing an ebook, getting on TV, all those big important blogging things that I want to do. But the topic I was looking forward to the most was the session on balance. Balance. Talk to anyone and it’s probably something they struggle with. Moms, students, women, men, everyone. For me, the word conjures up an image of a teeter-totter, going up and down, back and … [Read more...]

Milk Cap Glitter Spiders

image.png

I love these little spiders, they make me happy inside. I don’t typically do Halloween decor. I’m lucky to get fall stuff up and blogged. Cause every year it’s the same craziness: you have fall décor that goes up when it’s still hot out. Then you put up some Halloween, and BAM, BIG HOLIDAY! Then you take it down and put up some more fall, then BAM, another BIG HOLIDAY! Then it’s Christmas. BAM BAM BAM, BIGGEST OF HOLIDAYS! That’s a lot of holidays and decorating for me, I’m … [Read more...]

Black & White ABC Magnets

image.png

I needed some ABC magnets up in this house. Not the colorful, fun kind, oh no. I needed some boring magnets that would blend in with my kitchen. No fun allowed, not on my fridge. errr, umm... These letters are vinyl stickers that you’d use to stick onto your mailbox, I found them in the signs and mailboxes section of my favorite orange home improvement store. Nice and industrial. And cheap! Under two dollars a sheet. The nice part is that they have multiples of the most used letters, so … [Read more...]

Instagram Photo Coasters

Hey guys, I’m going to be on the latest season of “So You Think You’re Crafty”! You can head over and vote for me for this week’s challenge, “Stashbusting”, aka using up supplies you already own so your friends don’t nominate you for an episode of Hoarders. ;) Today, I’m sharing a tutorial for the Instagram Photo Coasters that I submitted for the audition round of SYTYC. They were easy to do, save our tables, and add a bit of personalized fun to the room. I take a ton of … [Read more...]

A Stick, Letters, Some Birds, and a Whole Lot of Mod Podge

image.png

How’s that for a title? SEO?! Ha! I just returned from Haven (you can tell I learned a whole bunch...) and I have about 3 recaps in draft. I’m sorry, I stink. No, I’m not sorry. Life got in the way, and you are not top priority here. ;) BUT! I have an awesome project to share with you. The lovely folks at Plaid Crafts and Blueprint Social (remember the giant Martha Stewart box?), blessed me with another huge box of crafty goodness. If you’re not familiar with Mod Podge, it’s … [Read more...]

Experimenting with Sunprints

Hello WHBS readers! I'm Erin from Lansdowne Life, where I blog about my creative DIY projects and adventures in home decorating. Things like painting, sewing, landscaping, and all sorts of other thrifty handmade goodness. Stop by and see me sometime!     I have a three-year-old daughter, and she loves doing crafty projects. Colorful Striped Abstract (KIDS!) Art

IMG_6743.jpg

These abstract paintings look like something I would buy, but I didn’t buy them. Nor did I lift a paintbrush. I had a hard time titling this post, mostly because I didn’t want you to see the word “kid” and think that it was art that only a mom or grandma could love. But I have to give them credit! My kids LOVE to paint. When I go to paint something, I usually hear “where’s my paint?” I’ll usually get out their color wonder stuff, watercolors, or convince them that they want … [Read more...]

Handprint Flower Planter

image.png

This Mother's Day, I wanted something that my mom could actually use. Something that my young kids could help with. And something that didn’t scream “my young kids helped with this”. I decided to use flower stencils, paints, and brushes to make my daughter’s handprints into flowers on a planter. Here’s what you need: -large planter (mine is from IKEA) -Martha Stewart Crafts sea sponges and other brushes -colorful crafts paints -stencils, I used the Nautical Study, … [Read more...]

Be My Sloppy Valentine

IMG_5141.jpg

Valentine’s Day snuck up on me, did it do the same for you?! Lily’s at an age (almost 3) where she’s starting to understand holidays. Christmas was a blast, and she’s been talking about hearts and love and giving people Valentines. I feel bad, I wanted to start getting stuff up early and go all out, but with three under three, two toddlers with opposite nap schedules (I’m not complaining – at least they still take naps, period!), and a seven week old who likes to nurse and/or use … [Read more...]
