Black & White ABC Magnets

image.png

I needed some ABC magnets up in this house. Not the colorful, fun kind, oh no. I needed some boring magnets that would blend in with my kitchen. No fun allowed, not on my fridge. errr, umm... These letters are vinyl stickers that you’d use to stick onto your mailbox, I found them in the signs and mailboxes section of my favorite orange home improvement store. Nice and industrial. And cheap! Under two dollars a sheet. The nice part is that they have multiples of the most used letters, so … [Read more...]

Sippy Cup Storage

image.png

When I posted my kitchen reveal (here, and here) with the new hardwood floors, I had two questions from readers concerning the lack of drawer hardware and where we keep the sippy cups. I noticed that you don’t have any hardware on your kitchen drawers? Is that for safety reasons for the kiddos? I actually didn’t realize this until you asked it, ha! Our drawers are the kind that have the little notches on the bottom of the drawer front, and act as a pull. At first it worked like … [Read more...]

The “Before the After” Pictures

IMG_6965.jpg

I’m not going to just lead ya into the after (although that would be fancy). We are 95% of the way done! Foyer rebuilt, old floors up, heat registers moved, new floor down, walls painted, doors replaced, trim painted, trim hung, stairs, railing, and floor registers stained (as of last night). We still have to caulk the trim, touch it up, throw a coat of poly on the stain, and move the furniture back, and that’s it! And plant our garden. OOPS. Foyer: We are also replacing the doors … [Read more...]

Foyer of the Future

IMG_6706.jpg

I’m sorry I’ve held back. I’m super in love with the floors. I clean my kitchen and vacuum every night so it looks all shiny. I don’t have to dodge doors while walking in and out of the house (I never even knew I did that). But things have been a little nutso around here. I’m not gonna act like I’m the first person living through a renovation, or the first person with three kids living through renovation. And I’m NOT COMPLAINING. But it’s tough! Doug took a week off and is now … [Read more...]

They Make Our Kitchen Look New

IMG_6698.jpg

I have no words. These wood floors make me happy. Just kidding. ;)  I’m Italian, I always have words! Do you love it?! I need to touch up the cabinets and have a few other ideas to freshen up the space. I also conned Doug into starting another huge project before we start adding trim, any guesses? One more beauty shot. Ignore the glimpse of the “realities of renovation,” aka a pile of stuff that doesn’t belong in my dining room. Go go photo editing blur magic! And I … [Read more...]

It’s Coming Along! (Wood Floor Update)

IMG_6393.jpg

So here’s where we left off. Day One: The laminate tile was taken out, staples removed, and all the junk was scraped out. Furniture was cleared out, the floor was started. These registers had to be refigured and cut, because they were originally right up against the wall. These will later be stained and poly-ed to match the floor. Day Two: Got farther, but also reconfigured another vent, and worked along the stairs: Day Three (yesterday): Two more registers … [Read more...]

40 BAGS IN 40 DAYS – Week 5!

wk5.png

Can you believe we only have two weeks left? I can’t. This week I didn’t go back up in the attic, but instead wanted to finish everything off on the first floor. The junk drawers in our foyer, the shoe storage there, all the shoes in our house, the kitchen cabinets (I did up one day and down the other), and the hutches in my dining room. … [Read more...]

Why I Can’t Leave Dirty Dishes in my Sink

I heard a slurping noise coming the kitchen and while I knew it was coming from Ben, I could not figure out what he was slurping in there. Well, uhhh... :) … [Read more...]

An Updated Kitchen

Lettered Dollar Tree Garland

I wanted a letter-y fall garland for over my sink, but did not want to cut it freehand or waste time (and paper) making and printing it out! Lazy? No. I have Dollar Tree! I found this very halloween-y garland that would perfect for a party, but was a little too much for my house or style. I hung and spray-painted the garland black   After it dried, I carefully cut the letters out of the garland, giving the letters a more simple look. I poked two holes in each letter with a … [Read more...]
