How I Clean My Hardwood Floors (with Oreck Grab-It and Steam-It)

image.png

With three young kids in an old home with all hardwood floors, I feel like I am constantly cleaning up the floor. We have dust bunnies, the occasional crumb, toddler messes, and a crawling baby who tries to eat any speck of mess that he finds. (yuck) A few of you have asked how I clean our hardwood floors. I’ll tell you how I used to clean them, and then how I clean them now. Here’s how I used to clean: Sweep or vacuum multiple times daily. Feel like I’m on a game show and go as … [Read more...]

Wasting Our Saturday Away

IMG_3908.jpg

Last Saturday started out productive. I was in the garden for a good 2-3 hours, Doug cut the grass, the kids got their naps in and then later played in the yard. And then we realized after we were exhausted by 1 pm, that it’s Saturday. What are we doing?! Let’s go have fun!             It was a blast. We let loose and actually enjoyed our Saturday instead of working hard. No running around, planning, or preparing. We hopped in the car, … [Read more...]

My Grandma’s Milking Stool

IMG_7524.jpg

It will be 10 years this November since my grandma passed away. I remember the day she asked me to come close and told me to go find something to keep. To remember her by. She had lung cancer. Some days were good, some days were really bad. This was during a good time. I was seventeen, and my naïve brain didn’t want to accept the fact that one day, she wouldn’t be here. I told her no and brushed off her request like she was being silly. But she looked at me sternly and asked me again. … [Read more...]

Hot Glue Icicle Ornaments

Inspired by the look of these vintage icicles that were on my parents’ tree (and now ours), I wanted to make a ton of icicles for our tree! To make the icicles, take an ornament hook, straighten it out, make a little loop, and hang them on some string Take your hot glue gun and glue away, letting the glue drip as it wants to to create more natural looking icicles. After they dry, take a look around and add more drips of glue as you need them. If your icicles try to stick … [Read more...]

Shrunken Sweater Leg Warmers

wow, take 30 seconds and #upcycle an old sweater or sweatshirt into leg warmers! #tutorial #legwarmers

I heart upcycling, especially with old clothing. I also heart quick, no-sew projects, this one took me all of, oh I don’t know… 30 seconds! Take a sweater that no longer fits, use your fabric scissors to cut the arms off, and slip them on your legs. Bam. Done. No sewing required. ;) Although I probably will need to sew these before or after washing them… and possibly add elastic?   I can’t wait to make a few more pairs out of other sweaters and sweatshirts. … [Read more...]

Peeling Crayons

There’s something about a newly opened box of perfect crayons that is so beautiful and comforting to me. I normally cringe while she does it, but there’s also something about seeing a box completely destroyed. The care it took to peel each crayon, put the wrappers in a pile, color a scribble with the crayon,  and then line them all up. Likewise, pretty beautiful. I need to let go more often… thanks for reading our feed, please stop by the house for a visit sometime soon. :) … [Read more...]

Favorite IKEA Things

IKEA makes it tough to pick favorites, seriously, their whole store is my favorite. But if I had to pick, here are some things that I actually have and use in my every day life. I’m sure I could think of about a dozen more, but I tried to condense. ;)   LENDA curtains, 2 panels for $19.99 I’m kinda sad that they raised the price from $14.99, but these are still a cheap option for curtains. They’re long, thick enough to filter out hot sun in this heat, and SIMPLE! I love their clean … [Read more...]

Homemade Kettle Corn

We’re big fans of “The Letter Factory” over here and usually around the time we hit “P! P-P-popcorn!” Lily goes RUNNING into the kitchen asking for popcorn. Since popcorn’s one of my favorites, I usually run in after her ;) I loooove kettle corn, so I found a way to make it at home! Take your stovetop popper, add around 1/3 of a cup of popcorn, a tablespoon of coconut oil, and a tablespoon of butter. Use more if you’d like, I’m a firm believer in good, healthy fats ;) … [Read more...]

Kid Sized Hutch and Color Plate Flashcards

Kid Sized Hutch and Color Plate Flashcards

Doug and I had recieved a antique kid-sized hutch from his mom, who had gotten it from her mom. We had it for a while, but decided to re-do it and set it up for Lily. We dusted, cleaned, and repainted the tiny hutch in the same Quail Egg by Valspar that we used for our hutch. I added some painted ceramic knobs from our corner cabinet and it was was the perfect touch! We gave the hutch to her, as well as some play pots and pans, as a Christmas present from us. Santa … [Read more...]
