Project for the Day 11/5: “Just Paint It Black!”

My project for the day while Lily is playing and sleeping? Taking my coffee tables from worn medium stained wood to black, taking my bookshelf (formerly used as a railing) from medium wood to black. The tables are worn and even though the bookshelf doesn’t look too bad in its current state, I think a nice coat of black will tie it in with the coffee tables and freshen it up. I’m kinda nervous (as I usually am) about painting wood, since I LIKE the look of wood. My sister in law is a big fan of painting old items black, I love how it all looks, but with being in an apartment, I held off on trying this techinque out for myself. So today will be my first experience!

The paint to use, I’m told, is Rustoleum Painters’ Touch Flat Black. It is available in spray paint form or brush on form, today I’ll be using the brush on form. I’m also going to prime everything with Kilz 2 primer to give it a good base and so the paint will stick and hold onto the furniture longer.

Here are some photos of “to be painted” items:

bookshelf in its original use: as a railing for the side door entrance
Taking it out really opened up the room, so we’re replacing it with a railing
(eventually, but before Lily learns to walk, lol).
The bookshelf semi-cleared off. Still has some dusty residue from the taper (from 2 weeks ago).
Yes, I’m just now cleaning it. I know, I’ve been bad, lol.

After pictures to come soon! I’m off to go paint!

  1. Just paint to black, wow, your sister-in-law sounds like she knows what she is talking about. Does she have a blog too? LOL!

  2. yay Ann Marie! I love the color of the siding you chose! I can't wait to see everything all done. You must have me and Samantha over one day to see everything :-)
