Why I’m Boycotting Spray Paint

image.png

I didn’t know how quite how to say this, but I’ve been thinking about it about lately and I need to get it off my chest. I’ve decided I’m going to boycott spray paint.   Yep, you heard that right. I’ve loved using spray paint here or there for the last few years. It’s quick, simple, cheap, they have great colors, and I get an excuse to go outside in order to do it. One might say that I was addicted to it. Not the paint fumes, but the instant satisfaction of grabbing an … [Read more...]

Spray Painted Tomato Cages!

image.png

Our tomato cages were gross and junky looking, but I’m not about to pay $7 for the nice, painted ones! My friend Erin told me about how she spray painted tomato cages and got that fancy look for a fraction of the price. I tried it on our free, rusty ones (six from my dad, two from freecycle). It took two cans of $4 spray paint for eight cages. I thought a light blue would look nice outside. I love em! They stand out, they make it look pretty, they hold my tomatoes up when they’re feeling … [Read more...]

Best Friends Forever Heart Art

image.png

This project is dedicated to my lovely sister, Ashley. There’s also little bit of a background story behind it. Do you remember those necklaces where you wear one half, and give the other half to your BFF? One day, my sister and I were at a theme park, and saw one of those booths where they airbrush t-shirts. We both turned to each other and and the SAME EXACT IDEA at the SAME EXACT MOMENT. My sister and I are pretty close, but this was just freaky. We needed “Best Friends” heart … [Read more...]

How To Spray Paint a Lamp

image_thumb.png

One of my favorite things to spray paint are lamps. It’s amazing what a coat of paint can do to an otherwise boring, normal lamp! Or maybe I like them because I get to throw out Anchorman quotes in my blog post? But you can’t just start spraying, there’s some prep work involved in painting a lamp. You don’t want to ruin the electrical parts or get things sloppy, and you want it to work. I put together this handy dandy photo tutorial that you can easily pin and store for reference! … [Read more...]

Very Hungry Caterpillar Upcycled Wall Art

IMG_6084.jpg

Do you have a hard time getting rid of books or throwing them away once damaged? While I’d like to consider myself detached (40 BAGS IN 40 DAYS has helped a lot with that!), books hold a sentimental place in my heart. Many of the books I’ve bought were from garage sales, and many of them were books I enjoyed as a kid. I love The Very Hungry Caterpillar, my kids love it, and we’ve spent many a bedtime reading it. We have two copies, one of which was very tattered looking. As I flipped … [Read more...]

Lamp, Statue, and Toddler Bed B&A

Do you know that the only gray things I have in my home are my clothes? I love gray, I don’t even know if I should spell it “gray” or “grey, ” I love wearing gray, I love greige, and I almost painted my whole house in a lovely warm gray tone until we realized it didn’t go well with the dark wood trim. That I’m planning on painting white. *shakes head* I should trust my gut… My creativity has been starving lately, so I tackled some quick projects to feed it!   This is the … [Read more...]

Foxy Box Fan Revamp

I’m getting more daring with color, project by project. I’ve always said I like neutrals with a pop of color, but the pop you get from orange spray paint is a new adventure for me! For this box fan, a $5 garage sale find, we were looking for function over form. I promise you I’ve cleaned this fan in the past, but it was way over due. This is all the baked on dirty, greasy goodness: I opened it up and cleaned it out, but it didn’t do much. The almond/dirty white … [Read more...]

White Chandeliers and Front Room Transformation

Inspired by a chandelier I saw at a garage sale, I decided to paint my similarly shaped oil-rubbed bronze chandelier white! Take a look at our front (frunch) room! I’m giving it a makeover of my own… Much improved from the last photo you saw of this room. Embarrasing. Pitiful. Pshhhh, those slobs. But forget I posted that and submitted it for the world to see (and lost 5 followers in the process), LOOK AT IT NOW! All I did was a 5 min cleanup, switch out with my new … [Read more...]

Metallic Spray Painted Wreath

I’ve seen metallic looking wreaths popping up here and there in my radar lately, Target, Michael’s, the PB catalog, I love the look. It is different than anything I’ve seen before and I wanted to try and recreate it. I love how it updated my tired wreath!   I took a huge wreath I had gotten from freecycle last winter. I loved the size! And while glitter, pine cones, berries, and fake snow can be good things (like all else, in moderation)… this wreath looked like someone had … [Read more...]
