My reflection on these past few days? The next 37 are going to be HARD.
So far I’ve tackled my bedroom.
The cute little bassinet is out of commission for now. It was a great clothes hanger, but in removing it, I had several piles of clothes on the floor.
A pile for Goodwill, a pile for a friend’s son, a pile for Goodwill, a pile for garage sale, a pile to hang up. WHY DO I HAVE ALL THESE PILES?!
I hung up the clothes, brought two small bins of maternity clothes to the attic, priced and bagged the garage sale items, brought two bags to Goodwill, and two bags of clothes to my mother-in-law:
(see I have evidence, lol.)
In clearing out, I also emptied two drawers. Woo hoo!
Put things where they went, JUST.LET.GO. and in the process got a bag of garbage, and as a result, I saw the top of my dresser for the first time in a month.
I rearranged my dressers and the new arrangement takes advantage of the wall space and corner. Diapers, wipes, and garbage in the corner on my great-grandfather’s table, a shared laundry basket right by the door.
Instead of having a laundry basket by Doug’s closet, a basket in our room, and a basket in the kids’ room, having ONE and emptying it in the basement EVERY DAY has helped to keep laundry under control.
While I was clearing out, Doug hung my curtains. 🙂
From the pictures, I’m sure you can tell that I haven’t really gone with the accent color you picked out for us. On my goal sheet, I wrote that if I cleaned the room, I could try selling my bed. If I sold my bed, I could make a new one. And once I made that new one, then I could go forward with incorporating the new colors.
No, I didn’t make the bed. I’m enjoying the evidence of our morning snuggle. 🙂
THIS WEEK’S TOTAL: 3 DAYS, 6 ½ BAGS
1 garbage, 2 to goodwill, 2 to my mother-in-law, ½ a bag for garage sale, 1 for a friend
--------------------
I had a few people ask some questions about the 40 days. Pretty much, do what works for you!
-What size bags should I use?
I’d say it’ll depend on the size of the area, in your car you might use Target bags. Your attic? If it’s anything like mine, industrial size!
-I live in a little apartment, I don’t know if I can come up with 40 bags.
Do what you can! Whether it’s 20 bags, 100 bags, or 38. The goal is to declutter and if you can do that in 20 bags, then more power to you – you’re way ahead of us! 😉
-What if I miss a day? I can’t make time for a bag a day…
I’m starting to run into the same thing myself. I think if you take care of a few bags the day one day and none the next, you’re good. Either that or take the time to clean out a smaller area, such as the bathroom, car, or junk drawer.
Don’t let filling bags get in the way of living your life. 😉

I would seriously injure someone for the luxury of two empty drawers... you have no idea! It is rough to live in a house with a grand total of 2 closets(including the utility closet)!P.S. I have a thing for baskets and I LOVE your laundry basket!Carolantiquetexan.blogspot.com
