As I update our WAY outdated house tour (from March ‘09?),
I’ll be posting individual rooms one at a time to give you an show you how things really look around here today!
We’ve come a long way. Although I often feel as if there are SO many things I want to do and not enough money, time, drive, inspiration, whatever and I beat myself up for it…
it’s great to look at these pictures. What a difference!
Right away we removed the wood paneling throughout the foyer and family room and replaced it with drywall. We also removed the handrail/bookshelf, painted it and used it as a bookshelf.
The bookshelf just was too cluttered, so I sold it and replaced it with a barn sale find. I painted our doors black and our skinny window trim white, as well as added a chandelier, curtains, 2 jute rugs, an entry table, and a kid sized table and chairs. All items were found at garage sales, with the exception of this rug, the curtains, and our conduit curtain rod.
Cost of furniture and accessories? $86!
subtract what we made on the bookshelf,
and it’s $46!
and it’s $46!
In the future, we plan on either adding a banister or reconfiguring the area near the door (wider stairs?! window seat?! I can dream…), adding wood floors to replace the old laminate tile, and finishing the doors and windows with trim.

I LOVE posts like this one! Such a big difference and such a small dollar amount. I always tell my first-time buyer clients not to drastically change anything expensive when they first move in, because as you live in a house, your ideas evolve. That is aexactly what you guys have done and each photo is drastically more appealing than the last. Way to go!!!Carolantiquetexan.blogspot.com
