My bathroom is UGLY and unless I do some hardcore renovation, there’s nothing I can do to change it.
(I still have not found the screws for the light in the hall, lol!)
The original owners stamped into the plaster walls to give the look of tile. I don’t know how it looked, but I’m guessing ugly since the previous owner sanded it all down to the bare bones.
It’s ready for me to update it, but we don’t quite have the funds. Needless to say, I’m super embarrassed of my bathroom and almost didn’t post these pics.
Oh wait, we have added an outlet. They didn’t need them in 1937!
We have these awesome ceramic lights original to the house, but their design makes it tough to look at. Literally. You cannot fit a shade on these bad boys, they’re migraine inducing!
I’m not looking forward to showing you my “40 days” progress on the room, because although it’s organized, you don’t see that. You see peeling paint.
I cleaned out the overflowing stack of magazines, left a few and organized some of Lily’s books. But I’m focusing on the gross walls and tile.
The empty bottles are gone and the area is cleaned up, but I’m thinking of the shower head that could be replaced.
Hair accessories and brushes went into this organizer from Target that I had on hand. They’re in my gross, wood vanity. …see the theme? 😉
We do have this hidden gem, my favorite part of the bathroom.
After cleaning out this gross bathroom, I had half a bag! Some toiletries were donated to freecycle, others went in the garbage.
Also this week,
I organized ALL of the toys (!!!!), but that’s a post on its own.
Sorted through ALL of our kids’ books and got rid of those that were damaged, organized the bottom of my entertainment center,
and along with some help from Doug, cleaned out the van. After finishing this post, I’m going to hop off and clean my foyer.
Yikes… not looking forward to it, but it has to be done!
Advice for the week?
Embarrassed of a room in your house? Don’t let it get to you. I’ve talked to family members who think I’m nuts when I mention my disgust for the bathroom. They don’t live here, they don’t notice it. Keeping it organized will make you feel better about the room!
Edited to add: Wow! I opened Sarah’s blog while waiting for my post to load and saw this new post. Such great advice, I enjoyed it, I think you will too.

Hang in there! I had one of those bathrooms in my house, too, and next to no budget to gut and redo it but I'm 85% done now after a year and a half of working on it myself. It will happen! Believe it. xox

You go, girl! I love that you posted those pictures, especially since I posted my nasty bathroom ones a couple weeks ago! 😉

Wow, you've been busy! Good for you! That bathroom is going to make some amazing before-and-after pictures some day. Hang in there--at least it's clean and organized!

Wow, a nasty cold has knocked me on my butt for the past week, but I'm still decluttering here and there. It's surprising how much recycleables I keep in the house, paper in particular. So Mr. Blue Bin is happy this week. I've also organized a yard sale for April, with proceeds going to a local playgroup that I organize. Yay for progress.Your bathroom *could* use some work, but it's smart smart smart to wait until you can afford it. In the meantime, you did a great job organizing it. I giggled a bit over your collection of teething (or maybe colic) tabs. They kept me sane when my little ones were even littler.
