I’m Ron Burgundy? (hahaha, sorry HAD to!)
Since practically every room of our house is neutral and has some sort of brown in it, I’ve struggled with what color combo I could go with in our bedroom. Sneakity peekity ahead:
Looking at the pictures, I get frustrated. It looks as if our bedroom is the “Shades of Brown Smackdown!” where all things neutral compete against one another for attention. We have tan walls, medium wood furniture, a brownish comforter, dark baseboards, wood floors, white windows with dark trim (oh the dilemma, more about this to come…), some stripey pillows that have every color in them and look more like patio furniture, ivory pillows, stupid lamps that make the room look orange when they’re on, and some oil rubbed bronze thrown in ‘cause I love it.
I guess that’s why I’ve put off showing you my clean, beautiful bedroom. Because it’s not beautiful, it’s a troubled room in need of some help.
As much as I love my neutral-colored home (makes it easier for me to change out and swap pieces), I’ve been struggling with the desire for color. I LOVE color, but looking at my home, you wouldn’t know it. Looking at the Ballard catalog I got yesterday (eee!), I noticed that EVERY FRICKEN ROOM is neutral with color here and there. Yippee! So I guess what I’m doing really is in and I can stop worrying. But that leaves me to wonder… what color combo do I go with for our bedroom?
The all popular blue, cream and brown? Got it. In my family room:
The beloved Tiffany blue? In my kitchen:
Clean greens, cream, and brown? Lily claimed it, it’s in her room:
Girls!!! I’m fresh out of ideas! I was thinking plum or maybe red? Or maybe black and cream? HELP!
Until I saw this:
What do you think about a gold/ivory/brown (my bedspread) color combo with some dark accents (a la my beloved Oil Rubbed Bronze)? I would use these shower curtains (or something similar) as curtains and maybe some throw pillows. Does it say romantic without being too feminine?
What do you think? What color combo is your fave for a neutral room?
Thanks for listening! This is really bugging me and this storm of ideas I have in my head is keeping me up (it’s 1:35 am). As well as some lovely heartburn and nausea, provided by my womb-dwelling son.

Well Ann,You know how I feel, I agree with the black furniture. I also really like the gold design picture. I like color but I like staying neutral more. It's easier! Anything you do will be great because you are so creative. Good thing you are getting things done before the baby!

The neutral color combo I have for my bedroom and bathroom is white/tan/black. Eventually I want the black to be in the form of furniture and the white and tan for everything else. Since we don't own a home and plan on renting or living in base housing for several more years, I think this is the best solution for us. I think the black gives it a not-too-feminine feel even if I have white ruffles on the bedspread. Ya know!? I do like to add pops of color... in my room, turquoise and pinks... Downstairs we have the same black furniture but there's more red and turquoise, with the walls and floor being neutral.

Wow do I relate!! Every room in my house is brown - hence The Little Brown House! And I do love it, but am wanting to bring in a little more color. I just added some gold to my family room with pillows and curtains and really like it! I love the bronze colors - they are in the curtains too. I love the brown, cream, bronze combo. I have also been thinking about the new "in" color in decor this year, turquoise. I am thinking about adding spots of it in some of my brown areas. Hope you figure it out and make a decision, I know it is hard to do! Especially when hormonal!

seeing as you love colour .. why not deck your room in colour? White walls may be 'boring' but boy do they light up an otherwise dull room! throw on a nice bright bed spread and some matching pillows and love it ! It might not 'match' the rest of the house, but that's your personal space.. enjoy it !!
