    Growing Garden!

    July 18, 2011 |

My apologies for the massive amounts of weeds. At first, I didn’t know what was a weed and what was a plant and although you can tell NOW, Doug and I have only gotten out there once.

Thinking I may clean up some of the big stuff and just use my dad’s trick - put grass clippings around everything! It smothers the weeds and keeps things looking neat.

    Let me show you around!

I also have three plants of butternut squash that are huge, have flowers, and are FAN-FREAKIN-TASTIC, but sadly I deleted that picture!

    But wait! There’s more!

Another thing I’d like to do, is take this huge area (60 ft by 100 something ft?), fence it in with a simple fence, and get chickens!

    image

I’ve talked about how much I love farm eggs, so why not get chickens? We have the land, I’ve heard they’re easy to take care of, this area has tons of bugs (which they love), and it’ll save us money. It’s always been a “someday idea” in the back of my head and I really hope it comes to fruition.

But chickens aside, I’m soooo excited about our huge garden!

I love your garden! I have a very small yard, probably the size of your garden and two hyper dogs, so until they depart I won't be growing a garden. I love your idea of chickens! Farm fresh eggs are so yummy and that would be fun for your kids to have that experience of raising chickens! I did plant strawberries in my front flower bed as a fun surprise among my flowers, but squirrels keep getting to the fruit. 😛 silly critters! I'll get that fixed soon though! Hope you are enjoying the fruits of your labor!
