Painted our kitchen on Friday, 2nd coat on Saturday. It looks great and the color really complements the ceramic tile backsplash (existing). The color is BM Everlasting (just like the rest of the house, lol).
The next big thing that we'd like to do in the kitchen is to paint the cabinets white. We think this will brighten up the space and make it look larger. We primed the cabinet doors on Saturday and started taking them off on Sunday.
Within the next few months or so (or when we have the funds, lol), we're planning on putting in new countertops. I'll update with a pic when I remember to take one, but the ones we have now are white with gold flecks and swirls. They're not TOO bad, but for the price of new laminate, it would be a nice, easy, and relatively inexpensive way to update the kitchen.
The house didn't have a dishwasher, but we have a dishwasher to put in! The space sandwiched between the fridge and under-the-sink cabinets was the perfect width. Doug and his dad took out the cabinet/drawer on Saturday night. There is a hole (ugh - mouse hole!), but we will use it to hopefully wire electric for the dishwasher. For now, it has duct tape over it.
On the wall facing the sink and fridge, there is a large green double oven. The oven is not hooked up and the previous owner was using it for storage. Since they do not make double ovens that size anymore (24"), we would have to re work things in order to add a new oven. Since our stove/oven works great and is relatively new, we are keeping that and getting rid of the oven. Doug and my dad took out the oven on Sunday.
Now if you look at the picture, originally I was thinking of just adding shelves and having an open cabinet in its place. (Please note - the only opening that does not have doors is the one where the oven was. The other doors were taken off to be painted.) Then we got the idea of taking out the large cabinet (all one piece), adding the cabinet taken out for the dishwasher (it is flush with the other cabinets, and having one long countertop in its place! Then, we would add in the cabinet that was above the old oven and put an open shelf below it to make that flush with the upper existing cabinets. Following me? Kinda confusing...
So Doug and my dad took out the whole piece and put in the old cabinet from across the room. We discovered an outlet and my dad moved it so that it could be used.

Actually, they would look great all in a row underneath! OR whatever you want! haha, lol!

Ann, I was thinking about that shelf (the one for your cookbooks) I think that your glass jars would look really cool on it also!!!!

Jim and I are not as courageous or ambitious as you - maybe that's why it's taking us forever to find a house :/. FYI, whenever we finally get our house, I'm going to consult you for advice and tips :). I can't wait to see how it all comes together!<3,Jackie
