    Oil Rubbed Bronze Strikes Again

    October 7, 2009 |

Oil Rubbed Bronze Strikes again, this time with the metal floor heat grates. Eventually I'd like to put some kind of screen material to keep Lily from dropping everything into the huge holes, but for now I thought they could use an update.

Before: painted with "fake wood" finish.
Not bad, but it really didn't match the real wood.

    After:

Excuse the pics. My floor is dirty and for some reason my blog wants the pic rotated 270 degrees.

My next project? Painting Oil Rubbed Bronze onto the other grates. I found a brush on finish by Benjamin Moore at Ace Hardware. Can't find a link, but it's called "Metal and Wood Enamel", color is Deep Bronze*, and it's available in a 32 oz container. I love the other grates, I think they look so cool and fit well with the house! I'm hoping the new paint makes them stand out!

    Other metal grates here (before):

*Updated 11/5: I had previously gotten the Benjamin Moore bronze paint in Bronzetone 60. After opening the paint, I realized that the color was more of a gray bronze and didn't match the other paint I had in spray form. If you're looking for a gray bronze, go with Bronzetone 60, but if you're looking for a darker bronze like I am, Deep Bronze is what you are looking for!

Hello I was just wondering if you might be able to help me? I've searching for this bronze tone 60 and I'm having no luck. I went to my local Ace and they can't find anything. By any chance is there a paint code number? Thanks Jason

Hi Jason! I'm sorry to hear you've had to do a bit of searching. The post is quite old and I've forgotten about it! The Bronze Tone 60 color is a Benjamin Moore paint, and recently Ace stopped carrying BM. If you find a Benjamin Store near you, they should have it.

That being said, Rustoleum now makes a brush-on version of their Oil Rubbed Bronze that I previously used in spray paint form. The Bronze Tone 60 is collecting dust in my basement, and I've been using the Rustoleum! I have been able to find it in Home Depot near the spray paint and other Rustoleum brush-on cans.

Hope this helped! I will amend the post to avoid having others confused.
