I'm not mad at Martha Stewart.
I'm not an expert.
I'm a twenty eight year old mom of four and wife to one. I was raised by a craft-loving mom. I took art classes and spent more time making Barbie's house than playing. Somehow I managed to get a degree in math instead of going into the arts. And while it'd be cool to hold the title of "mathematician", I don't consider myself an expert in that field either.
I got married. Graduated. Had a kid. Bought a house. Started a blog. Had three more kids. Made a bunch of stuff, made my house all nice, made some food, and took pictures. Met you all in the process.
I make because that is where my passion lies, it makes me feel good and having a home crafted over time makes me happy. I blog because it's cool to have a cheering section and inspire others. I give credit where credit is due if I am inspired by someone else. Heck, I don't want to be an expert. I don't want that kind of pressure! 😉
Maybe the video was clipped to create controversy and generate views. Maybe Martha's comments shouldn't have been said, but since when is she known for sugar coating things? I have always had respect for her and the people in her company. Heck, I'll even admit that I love her brand's products. Ducks to avoid tomatoes being thrown.
I'm not boycotting or getting mad, she's entitled to say what she wants. I am going to keep on doing what I'm doing and create.

I love Martha Steward, but I really disagree with her. I mean, I've had her book on crafts and I have not done a SINGLE craft from her book. Ask me why, and I'd say that it is really because, not everything is easily available to everyone, plus these materials aren't affordable.
Would agree that I wouldn't boycott her products, but just wish she didn't slam the entire arts and food community.

I agree! Oh well. I don't need Martha to tell me I'm cool, I already know it 😉
Thanks Sherlyn!

Random because I couldn't get the link to load: I spent the majority of the time designing Barbie's house, too. I used to hate "house cleaning" days because it meant I had to take the entire thing apart (that took up my whole bedroom floor) and start over, lol.

I'm not a craft or food blogger, so I feel this comment from her wasn't even remotely directed at me (I'm more of a carpentry and home improvement blogger). I get the gist of what she was saying and I'm sure there is some truth to that, but it was inarticulate. She could've said something less harsh. She's inspired SO many bloggers over the years that she clearly bit that hand that feeds her. Meh, I suspect blog land will get over it.

I have had similar thoughts. I think her tone is probably the worst part. What she actually said is mostly true, just not very nice. But, then, did anyone really think Martha was nice?

I finally had a chance to watch this after hearing/seeing/reading the uproar. And after I ranted in your comment box, I decided to make a blog post about it myself. 🙂 Thanks for the prompt!

Good for you. While I don't necessarily agree with Martha Stewart, I'm not mad at her either. I am no expert and I don't claim to be. What I don't like about what she said is the fact that she has "used" bloggers to do her bidding and even spoke at Blogher. It's controversy and it will run it's course and then something else will pop up. I agree with Gwenalyn, I much prefer reading a blog like yours and getting inspired by another mom!

I agree with Gwen. We aren't trying to be an "expert" we are trying to do thigs on a budget and share our success stories with our friends. Besides we are eCh setting our own style. I rarely write tutorials because I get inspiration from someone else and I reference that person in my post even though what I make may look totally different.

Agreed!! Well put, Ann Marie. And I LOVE that picture!!

I'm not a big Martha Stewart fan (I don't dislike her, either, just sitting here in the middle where it's safe 😉 ), but I prefer to read blogs written by my peers. I don't feel like I'm being talked down to, or feel like I'm being sold a product. When I read blogs by real people, such as yours, I feel like I'm getting tips/advice from a friend. You post pictures of your home looking less than perfect, we see how much you love your kids and your life... It's a breath of fresh air. Being a stay at home mom, I have very little adult conversation and blogs give me that little bit of "grown up" time that I need to get by. Martha is entitled to her opinion, but I'm going to stick with non-experts for now. 🙂 Keep up the great work, Ann Marie!

That's just about the nicest thing you could have said. 🙂 I'm happy that's how you feel when you read, because that's how I feel when I'm writing it. Like I'm talking with a friend. Thank you, Gwenalyn!
