Avocado is one of our favorite foods around here, but I remember a day when I had no idea how to cut one. And then I ended up wasting a whole bunch of avocado or making a big sloppy mess. Here's how I cut and dice an avocado, it makes things super simple and also helps when your avocado is not so ripe. When you're done slicing, head over here to learn how to make a real easy guacamole.
Ready?
Here's how to do it:
Grab a large knife and slice your avocado lengthwise, dragging the knife blade along the pit. Twist the avocado to open it.
Stab the avocado pit with your knife and twist to release it. Tap the handle of your knife onto the edge of a bowl or garbage can to remove it and throw it out.
You might notice that I used a serrated knife, and you also might notice that I had to smack the pit a few times before it stuck. Don't use a serrated knife. 😉
Next, make slices in your avocado in one direction. Don't push too hard that you go through the skin. Turn the avocado and make slices in the other direction.
Get a big spoon and scoop your avocado out and into a bowl. It'll be all diced and easier to mash for guacamole! This also works great when you're working with a not ripe avocado, since you've got it in tiny pieces the hard avocado won't be as difficult to mash.
Now head to this recipe and learn how to make a simple guacamole. So simple, I called it the easiest EVER. 🙂
